I really hope BMW surprises everyone and puts an N/A in the M2. It would definitely make think about buying a new M2 as opposed to a used E92 or E46.

I own a 335is and I can tell you personally... I'll be adding a Cayman GT4 to the stable along side it WELL before I replace it with an M2 or add an M2 along side it.

I know. Especially from someone who owns more bimmers than any other make and who has owned more bimmers over time than any other make.
But I think it's impossible for the M2 to stack up to the Cayman GT4. It's just too damn heavy. And it's based off a sedan chassis. There is no substitute for a chassis that has been designed for a sports car and nothing else.
The GT4 is going to be one hell of a car.

The GT4 might be the worlds best sports car.
The 4C is only a 4 Cylinder, doesn't come with Manuél, and is deficient in a lot of other ways.
The 911s are better, but they have to be. The added pricetag comes additional features and items that push them more into luxury spectrum of sportscars. Plus, you won't be able to get one without snails soon.
Daimler builds german muscle cars. They don't make anything like the GT4.
Audi is BMW + AWD and a Lambo in the line up.
The M2 is really the only other car that could compare favorable to the GT4, and even here it might suffer because it's a sedan missing two doors.
Huge fan of Murican muscle that I am...yeah, there's nothing currently out or on the radar that compares favorable to a GT4 here. THE GT350 is too big, the Corvette is a discount 911, the Ford GT is a supercar, Dodge doesn't really make small performance cars right now (and they wouldn't be RWD if they did)
Nothing from Japan either. A new MR2 might do the job, but we aren't getting that as long as the GT86 is still alive.The toyobaru is woefully inadequate relative to the GT4 (which is completely fair since a GT4 is 3-4x GT86 money)
So what's left? The Elise? It's not fast enough anymore.

You made zero points that I have any beef with. The only one I don't really agree with 100% is that the Corvette is a discount 911. It's more of a discount Ferrari 599.
The GT4 could definitely end up being one of the best overall sports cars at any price point. It is going to destroy at weekend track days wherever the tracks are extra tight and twisty.
